Mitsubishi WD-65831

Why We Like It: This Mits DLP is big, bright and colorful with a slightly soft, but very natural looking, non-fatiguing picture. Even though the blacks aren't the deepest we've seen, this set still competes with the top tier of sets in dark room movie watching. On top of all that, the set is easy and even intuitive to set up and use. Sets like this are how Mitsubishi became the big screen TV company back in the day. |

Sony KDS-R60XBR2

Why We Like It: Sony's SXRD displays not only get cheaper with every successive generation, they've been getting better each time out. This RPTV is cheaper than the 60" XBR that came before it, and yet its blacks and contrast ratio are off the chart and it also adds some new wrinkles to its advanced dynamic iris system. Like the other SXRD displays we've seen the colors are a bit oversaturated, and the competition is closing fast. Still, this is a righteous three-chip 60" rig that produces a picture that's hard to fault. |

Why We Like It: This 70" Sony puts the BIG in big screen! It hit us with a combination of compelling detail and a silky quality that never looked falsely sharp or digital. While we still aren't the biggest fans of the Sony color palette, the blacks and contrast here are outstanding. And you won't find a flat panel that can match this set's size and impact, and if you do you'll have to take out a second mortgage to get it! |
