JVC LT-37X987 LCD HDTV:
Full-On/Full-Off Contrast Ratio—729:1; ANSI Contrast Ratio—669:1
Measured Resolution with the Leader LT-446:
DC Restoration (poor, average, good, excellent): Good Color Decoder (poor, average, good, excellent): Good (though a touch better with Color Management on)
Measured Color Points:
The top chart shows the LT-37X987's gray scale relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). The gray scale as set by the factory, in the Low color-temperature mode and the Theater Pro picture mode, measures extremely cool with the darkest images, warm with slightly brighter images, fairly accurate with midtones, and then warm again with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures just slightly better, and the amount of green in the image is more accurate. The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue color filters. These are somewhat close to those specified by SMPTE. Red is slightly undersaturated. Blue is very slightly greenish-blue. Green is very slightly oversaturated and somewhat bluish-green. After calibration, and using a full-field 100-IRE white (45.17 foot-lamberts) and a full-field 0-IRE black (0.062 ft-L), the contrast ratio was 729:1. Using a 16-box checkerboard pattern (ANSI contrast), the contrast ratio was 669:1. The best contrast ratio was achieved with Energy Saver Mode set to –30. The brightest image was achieved with Energy Saver Mode set to +30. This mode produced 101.4 ft-L with a 100-IRE field and 0.143 ft-L on a full-field 0-IRE black. This makes for a contrast ratio of 709:1.—GM
