Sharp Slashes LCD TV Prices By HT Staff June 9, 2004 — More manufacturers are entering the LCD TV fray, and Sharp Electronics is responding to the pressure with price drops for its leading Aquos line. The new prices could prove quite attractive for movie fans that have been looking for a sleek, lightweight flat panel.

Price reductions on Aquos models include a drop from $649.95 to $599.95 for the 15" LC-15S1U and a drop of $1000 on the 37" LC-37G4U from $5999.99 to $4999.99. The LC-37G4U is an HDTV monitor with 1366 x 768 resolution, 800:1 contrast ratio, "advanced super view panel with black TFT low reflection coating," PC card slot, and HDMI connectivity. Its audio section features a 1-bit digital amplifier.

The 15" LC-15S2U and LC-15B4U are newly priced at $699 each; the 20" LC-20S1US/UB at $1,099.99; the LC-20S2U at $1,199.99; and the 22" LC-22SV6 at $1,799.99. Larger Aquos sets include the 26" LC-26GA4U at $2,999.99; the 30" LC-30HV4U and LC-30HV6U at $3,499.99 each; and the 32" LC-32G4U at $4,499.99.

The company also plans to rollout a new line of non-Aquos branded LCD televisions, expected to arrive later this year. Bearing the Sharp logo, the new sets won't offer all the features found on Aquos products, and will include three models with 4:3 screens - a 13"-diagonal expected to retail for $499, a 15" at $599, and a 20" unit at $899. The new product introduction will the first time that Sharp has marketed LCD sets outside the Aquos umbrella.
