Panasonic Sets Sights on OLED
The Japanese press report quoted by Reuters said Panasonic will mass-produce 37-inch sets, which would make it the first manufacturer making OLEDs of more than 30 inches. It also said production line was being planned in Japan. The story even included a price, $1390. A company spokesperson would not confirm the details, saying only that Panasonic was considering the commercialization of OLED technology. The company's president has previously said he doesn't expect the OLED market to expand till 2015. Still, with LCD sales far outpacing Panasonic's plasmas, the company may well be actively plotting its next technological move. Sony start selling the first commercially available OLED TVs, with 11-inch screens, in November. Shown in the picture is a prototype developed by Toshiba and Panasonic.
