Bass
Below a certain frequency a room stops behaving like a space that sound passes through and starts behaving like an instrument. Where its resonances land is set by three dimensions and nothing else.
A corner loads the room hardest — useful for level, unhelpful for evenness.

A standing wave
Low frequencies have wavelengths the size of the room, so bass is a property of the room far more than of the speaker.
Dimensions you cannot change against seats you can.
Spend on placement before correction. -
Nulls and peaks
Move the seat a metre and the bass changes completely. Nothing is broken.
A peak can be trimmed; a null cannot be filled.
Spend on moving things, not on adding level. -
More than one subwoofer
Two badly placed usually beat one placed well.
Two modest sources against one large one.
Spend on a second source rather than a bigger one.
