Light in the Room
Light in the room is the variable nobody specifies and everybody has. It does not dim a picture evenly; it lifts the floor, and it takes the bottom of the range with it.
Every reading is taken off the panel itself, in the light the room will actually have.

Wall colour
Every surface facing the screen bounces some of it back.
